What to do when you first learn that your child has autism or some other neuropsychological disorder

1. Read case histories from Little Bubba's Not Ready for Nashville Yet that are related to your child' s diagnosis.

2. Order relevant ABA programs from ABA4autism.com to deal with compliance problems and developmental delays. Read the introduction to see which programs you should start with.

3. Consult a pediatric neurologist about your child's condition and the need for medications.

4. Have an evaluation by a Speech-Language Pathologist, an Occupational Therapist, and a Physical Therapist. It is also a good idea to choose a pediatrician experienced in treating children with autism or the neuropsychological disorder your child has.

5. Join a support group and become an advocate for your child in your local school system. For information on autism support groups in your area go to http://autism.meetup.com
